						 On 10  August 2009, the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations and the Permanent  Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, partnered with Hiroshima City,  Nagasaki City, and Semey City, in cooperation with Hiroshima International  Council for Medical Care of the Radiation-Exposed (HICARE), opened the exhibition  titled “Against Nuclear Arms” in the Visitor’s Lobby of the United Nations  Headquarters. 
  
The  exhibition showcased informative panels with archival photos of two tragic  experiences; the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan  in 1945 and its aftermath, and the nuclear testing carried out in Kazakhstan  during 1949-1989, and the effects on the surrounding people and environment. It  also includes a presentation from HICARE on the promotion of international  cooperation with regards to health care for the radiation-exposed. 
						  
						The Permanent  Representative of Japan,  H.E. Yukio Takasu, presented opening remarks touching on the cooperation  between Japan and Kazakhstan, and  the importance that the memory of the documented tragedies never be forgotten. Ambassador  Takasu also outlined Japan’s  efforts towards nuclear disarmament, including Foreign Minister Nakasone’s  “Conditions toward Zero – 11 Benchmarks for Global Nuclear Disarmament” and the  signature and ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. 
						  
						“Against  Nuclear Arms” will be displayed in the UN Visitor’s Lobby from 10 August to 30  September 2009.
